Grading costs, explained
How much does PSA grading cost?
PSA charges per card, and the fee depends on the service level (turnaround time) and the declared value of the card — higher-value cards must use more expensive tiers. On top of the fee you pay shipping both ways and insurance. Fees change regularly, so check PSA's current fee schedule and enter the fee for your tier in the calculator.
When is a Pokémon card worth grading?
When the graded sale price, minus the grading fee, shipping and selling fees, clearly beats what you would get selling it raw. That usually means the card is valuable to begin with and in excellent condition — centering, corners, edges and surface all count. A card that grades a 7 or 8 often sells for little more than a raw copy.
What is a break-even graded price?
The price the graded card has to sell for just to match selling it raw. If recent sales of the grade you expect are well above it, grading is likely worth it; if they are close, it's a gamble.
